Over 32,000 Vacancies in J&K Government Departments: CM Omar Abdullah

Srinagar, March 4, 2025 – Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has informed the House that a total of 32,474 vacancies exist across various government departments as of January 31, 2025. The vacancies include 2,503 gazetted posts, 19,214 non-gazetted posts, and 10,757 multi-tasking staff (MTS) positions.

Recruitment Process Initiated

The Chief Minister, who also holds charge of the General Administration Department (GAD), stated that the government has taken steps to fill these vacancies. Since taking office on October 16, 2024, the administration has referred 3,727 vacancies to the Jammu & Kashmir Service Selection Board (JKSSB) and Public Service Commission (PSC). These include:

  • 738 gazetted posts
  • 1,754 non-gazetted posts
  • 1,235 multi-tasking staff positions

Examination Fees Collected

The government also disclosed that a total of ₹14.17 crore has been collected as examination fees from students appearing in recruitment tests conducted by JKSSB and PSC.

The disclosure highlights the scale of unemployment in the region and the government's efforts to address it through recruitment drives. However, with a significant number of vacancies yet to be referred for recruitment, aspirants are keenly awaiting further action from the administration.
